The Tunnel: 6 Word Memoir #2

I had a friend email me this comic today saying he thought it summed up our line of work pretty well... It definitely harps back to the issue of always searching for that awesome endpoint- when you can sit back and feel as though you have made it... but I quickly emailed back and guessed that as an artist doing festivals... we spend each weekend searching for the light. Its not ONE light- its many... one for the end of each show! Because once you have summited one festival, there is always the next one, so it is ongoing... and I imagine that is the closest we come to resembling "real job" issues, ha! There is always another day and another dollar...

I finished the show in Chelsea last weekend and about it I will stay curiously quiet. My silence shall speak for me and for the show's quality. But at least it worked as an ice breaker. Keeps me humble... but like any good roller coaster, after the low I am definitely in need of a thrill!

So that brings up Art Birmingham, this weekend, again up in Michigan. I had to get a lot ready for this show as I was given extra booth space for more inventory. If you have followed my little journey, you know that I had to get a new car this past Christmas as my old one that I traveled in broke down. Well, I have been less than thrilled with my new cargo space, but continue to strive to make it work...

So I pumped myself up to get everything "Tetrised" in the car this afternoon and, while I notice some guys doing road work at the end of the street, dont really think much of it. I get all 30+ pieces I have to load sitting outside and ready to put in the car with all the doors wide open when I hear someone yell what must have been akin to "TIMBERRRRRR..." and this MONSTER 130 ft tree comes falling down the street!!! They have just chopped it down and (it being the height of allergy season) I stood by my open car with all my work out in the street as this opaque wave of yellow pollen rolls across everything. Not only is there a thick layer of pollen all over everything in my car, but all over my work and you can imagine the fair amount that even crept INSIDE the frames... AAARRRGGG!!!!! I mean- it was sitting outside for 15 minutes tops for all of this to happen.

SO! We are off to a great start! I know everyone wants to take home a piece of new art with the promise of it helping your nose to run just a little bit more... right?

Anyway, these two ideas helped make a no brainer memoir for the week, and while seemingly literal, it also serves as a more broad inspiring idea as we all march along...
Hope you all have a great Mother's Day weekend!
